Dear all,
Prolepsis Research Network is delighted to announce the launch of a new online seminar series, NeoClassica: Texts and Perspectives from the Early Modern Classical Tradition, which explores the reception and adaptation of Classical texts and themes during the early modern period.
The NeoClassica series provides an interactive platform for scholars to exchange ideas and insights, focusing on works written in Classical languages or modern languages that engage with Classical themes. By combining historical perspectives with linguistic analyses, the series aims to foster a deep and nuanced understanding of literary and scholarly works influenced by Classical antiquity.
Our first meeting, titled
From Commentary to Creation: Humanist Engagements with Classical Poetry from the 15th to the 18th Century
will take place on November 26, at 4 pm (CET). We are pleased to welcome the following speakers:
Giancarlo Abbamonte (Università di Napoli Federico II), Commenting on Virgil in the Late Italian Humanism (ca. 1470-1520): Pomp. Leto, Cr. Landino, Politian and Aulo Giano Parrasio.
Florian Schaffenrath (Universität Innsbruck), Making New Classics: How Vernacular Texts become Classical Latin Epics.
Gesine Manuwald (University College London), Classical Antiquity and Gregor Bersman (1538–1611).
We warmly invite all interested colleagues and students to join us for the opening session of NeoClassica and to take part in the discussion.
To receive the link please email us at prolepsis.network@gmail.com.
